A celestial blue spangled with tiny golden stars: it’s not surprising that the ancient Egyptians called lapis lazuli “the stone of heaven”. For over 5,000 years lapis has been carved into gorgeous gems and figures, as well as ground to provide a highly valued pigment.
Given to celebrate the 9th anniversary, the beauty of lapis is shown to greatest advantage when smoothed to a high polish in cabochon and bead jewelry.
