Of all the wedding trends that I’m seeing at the moment, there are few I love more than that of mixed metallics. I love the opulence of coppers, golds, silvers and bronzes and I just adore the richness of the finished look when they’re all combined together. Whether you go bold with this trend or use it in moderation alongside more natural elements, you just can’t ignore the beauty of mixed metallics…
Wedding dress designers have absolutely embraced the mixed metallics trend too and you’ll find embellished gowns in almost every collection right now. Whether you choose a gown that’s heavily sequined or lightly jeweled, there’s no doubting the fact that you’ll be the centre of attention for all the right reasons. Bridesmaids also look amazing in mixed metallic tones and you can be sure that these will be gowns your maids will wear again and again!
The world is also your oyster with mixed metallic bridal accessories – from sparkling shoes in all shades and styles to mix-and-match headpieces and jewellery. Why not choose tiaras and headbands that work with your hair colour or opt for a glittering coloured bridal clutch bag or shimmering wrap? If a metallic inspired gown isn’t for you then why not indulge with your accessories instead?
There are a myriad of ways you can bring metallics to your tables too and again, whether you prefer elegant, glamorous or rustic, you can certainly incorporate metallic elements into you day. Sequined tablecloths are big news right now and they look even more fabulous when you add in differently coloured cutlery and crockery. For a more classic look, metallic charger plates bring a little pop of colour to proceedings without being at all overpowering and for a rustic look, why not use painted fruits and paper doilies on rougher tablecloths?
Candles are also a perfect addition to any mixed metallic table and again, you can use them in whichever way suits your style. Plain white candles in gold-toned holders are the epitome of elegance while mixed silver and gold candles and holders clash perfectly or all gold and bronze candles and holders look wonderful for autumn and winter celebrations.
As you might have already noticed, you can easily create your own candleholders by spray painting bottles in metallic hues and it’s just as easy to make your own floral centrepiece by giving tins of all sizes a quick lick of paint too. Just wash them out, file any rough edges, paint and fill with simple flowers and a beautifully relaxed look.
Your imagination is really the only limit to how you include mixed metallics in your wedding and a little look around the Internet will give you endless inspiration. For glamorous occasions, gold-rimmed champagne flutes or heavy invitations edged in rose gold look stunning. For a more laid back affair, why not make your own mixed metallic backdrop by tying lengths of coloured material to a sturdy line? Use this as a ceremony, top table or photobooth backdrop throughout the day.
